Introducing the concept of ‘Open Advertising Marketplace’

June 25th, 2008

Imagine a truly open environment - a marketplace, where web publishers list their websites offer, and advertisers list their advertising opportunity. Web publishers and advertisers hook up directly and work for the perfectly win-win advertising deal - whether it is the regular monthly sponsorship, or interface branding, or sponsored post. No 3rd party interference or limitation, no commission - 100% of the ad dollar goes into the hard working web publishers’ pocket.

This is the ‘Open Advertising Marketplace’ concept we thought is missing from the online advertising scene.

What’s the catch?

I know what you are probably thinking: it is too good to be true and the "There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch" mindset. I would say you are right.

Well, the catch is: web publishers have to manage their own ads (probably with their own ad server and solution) and payment.

That’s all. For all the work of managing your own ads and payment in exchange for the 20% - 60% of commission advertising network normally charge, I would say all the hard work is worth it.

The hard work of managing your own ads

Talking about hard work, we thought it is actually pretty easy and getting easier.

Firstly, what’s so hard about uploading a banner or send a payment request through PayPal? Then, if you are looking for something complicated, we have our sophisticated open source solution: OpenX. If you want a recurring billing for your advertiser, we have Freshbooks (and many other alternatives). If you want a hosted ad serving solution, OpenX hosted and Google Ad Manager are in their beta.

So yeah, the future is bright on this one.
